"Pacific Love" Album Release Show w/ No Lovely Thing & The Crooked Stuff

  • The Starry Plough 3101 Shattuck Avenue Berkeley, CA, 94705 United States (map)

New Orleans rooted and Oakland-based psychedelic funk and soul band, CitizenFive celebrate the release of their long-awaited "Pacific Love" EP with a special live performance of their new EP cuts and some funky previously unreleased grooves.

For their debut EP, the Bay Area based experimental soul band CitizenFive digs deep. The New Orleans roots of singer/percussionist Nate "Suave" Cameron and bassist Blyss anchor the whole affair, while Kevin Seal's tremolo Rhodes keeps the chords fresh and surprising. Rian Robinson, a drummer raised in the gospel churches of the East Bay, glides gracefully from simmer-sizzle to stomping kick and tree-trunk snares. Buoyant lead single "Pacific Love" shines brightly, as do the sharp political commentary of "No Justice No Peace" and the anthemic summer jam, "C5 is Here." As an opening salvo, this EP is a strong statement for Oakland's newest party-starters.

No Lovely Thing

No Lovely Thing is a seven piece funk & soul band from Oakland, CA. Led by singer Melissa Jones’ percussive melodies, the band brings elements of blues, ska, reggae & jazz into the mix, leaving room for improvisation, giving each song the chance to blow up.

The Crooked Stuff

Deep vibes, spacious, thumping and a bit haunting with spaced out keys and fuzz driven bass... The Crooked Stuff is a cross-pollinated hybrid of heavy soul, electronic funk and head nodding beats. Featuring current, former and special guest members from Vinyl, Galactic and Tree Of Frogs – the band has the sound DNA to move assess and entertain music loving minds.
